Manuel Fontanez Guadalupe was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on January 1, 1928. Son of the late Pedro Fontánez Ramírez and Pilar Guadalupe Guadalupe. He passed away in the state of Massachusetts on March 29, 2024. Fontánez, a veteran of the United States Army and a participant in the Korean War, worked in construction as a surveyor. Manuel, a fan of the Red Sox and dominoes, always enjoyed his horse racing on Sunday afternoons. Fontánez was also known as Don Manuel for being the owner of his kiosk in the Luis Llorens Torres housing project where he lived for many years.

Don Manuel, the fourth son of 9 siblings, is survived by Catin and Jose Manuel (Cheo). He was an excellent and proud father of his six children, Manuel (Nino) and Pedro Luis. He is survived by Luis Alberto (Wilo), Maria del Pilar (Pilarcita), Nilda, and Carlos (Tito). Freddy and Wilfredo (Pirulo), whom Manuel and his mother Pilar raised as their own children, and a countless number of nieces and nephews in the United States and Puerto Rico.

His nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, including his personal angel Sofia, and his only great-great-granddaughter Zoraly, brought him great joy.

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" (Psalm 56:3-4)
