Francisco Benjamin Matos, a long time resident of New York City passed away on the 14th of January the year 2022.
Francisco was born on March 12th, 1960 in Barahona, Dominican Republic and is survived by his mother Carmen Doris Castillo de Matos, his siblings Nieves Matos Castillo, Eudes Matos and Doris Matos Castillo, his children Frandy Benjamin Matos and Franklin Benjamin Matos and grandchild Zara Analiz Matos. He is predeceased by his father Dimas Matos Suero.
Francisco, from his youth was an avid baseball player and loved spending his evenings on the baseball field. When he wasn’t on the field, you would find him in the Rio San Rafael or on the beach spending his days swimming and spending time with his friends. As a young man, he worked as a sanitation inspector in San Pedro de Macoris in Dominican Republic for several years. Then he went on to work on various ships as a free-lanced cook. His passion was the kitchen and feeding people, working in many restaurants as well and in his older days working in soup kitchens. While living in Miami, Florida, he worked as a painter, painting many of the hotels that are now popular in Downtown Miami and in the Miami Beach area.
Francisco was a devoted father to his sons, a man of faith and was always the life of the party wherever he was. He was known by many because of his Spanish catch phrases such as “Alabao,” and“Dame Luz”. He would love to pull pranks on his family and close friends and would never fail to give you a nickname if you didn’t already have one. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family and everyone who he had an interaction with.
